Before I sign off on a skid, I walk around the machine twice. Once for the spec sheet, once for the details that tell you whether the factory actually cared. In Q1 2024, I ran a comparison on two quotes for a 20-machine package. The lower-priced quote was about $3,800 cheaper upfront. But the warranty on the lower-priced units excluded labor after the first year, and the replacement pad kit cost $600 more. Over three years, the 'cheaper' package would have cost about $1,100 more. Bottom line: the lowest quote has cost us more in a majority of projects when we track repairs and downtime.
The invoice price is not the total cost. The total cost includes installation, maintenance, downtime, and member complaints.
Ask for a spare parts kit with every large order: pins, pulleys, pads, and adjustment knobs. If a machine is down for two weeks waiting for a pad, that's lost revenue. A $30 pin that arrives in three days is a no-brainer.
7. Build the training content before the equipment arrives
This is the step most people ignore. Most warranty claims I see are setup issues. It took me three years and more than 150 delivery inspections to understand that.
